My Adventures in Peru

From Panama City, my mom and I flew to Peru with only two backpacks in hand.  We spent about two weeks in all of Peru and we visited: Lima, Machu Picchu, the Colca Canyon, and Cusco, as well as a few other little stops along the way.  Peru was absolutely fascinating!  The landscapes, such as the mountains are breath taking, and the people are so down to earth and have a very intriguing way of life!

Lima:

Lima, the capital of Peru, is one of the only busy, bustling cities in this country.  It has many beautiful, artsy markets and lots of interesting museums and excavation sites as well.  Lima is also known for its excellent restaurants so we just had to try guinea pig, which is traditional Peruvian gourmet!

To get to Aguascalientes, the town just below Machu Picchu, we took a bus from the town of Cusco and then walked the rest of the way along the tracks beside the Andes mountains!

On the way to the Colca Canyon, we stopped for a few hours in an adorable and quite scenic little town called Ollantaytambo. It was personally my favourite town we visited in Peru!

Colca Canyon

Even though the Colca Canyon may not be as famous as the Grand Canyon in the United States, the Colca Canyon is actually bigger! As well as spectacular views, Colca Canyon is filled with llamas, alpacas, vicuñas (very similar to llamas and alpacas), and, of course, lovely people.  I think our favourite part about Colca Canyon though was seeing the huge, majestic condor bird flying over the canyon!

Our last stop in Peru was Cusco.  Although it's not a big city like Lima, it is still busy and bustling just the same.  It is different from Lima however in that the people walking down the street are not wearing jeans and t-shirts but instead, they are wearing traditional Peruvian clothing like ponchos!  Another great stop for markets of all kinds!
